Story
Problem
The existing Spotify widget on iOS offered limited functionality and lacked flexibility. It didn’t support personalization or adapt to different user needs, making it more of a static display than a helpful daily tool.
Solution
The redesign concept introduces a more dynamic, user-driven experience. Through modular layouts, theme options, and playback-focused configurations, the new widget empowers users to shape their own interface.

My Redesign
Widget Settings
The original Spotify widget offered no customization. I introduced a settings layer that adds real user control — including the ability to show a playlist icon inside the widget. With a single tap, users can now directly add the currently playing track to a pinned playlist, without having to open the Spotify app. I also integrated customizable tap gestures and the option to pin specific playlists, making the widget more actionable, personal, and aligned with real listening behavior.
Widget Selection
Beyond the original small and medium formats, I introduced a new large widget layout — offering more space, more functionality, and more flexibility. Users can now pin up to four playlists directly to the widget and control playback without opening the app: play, pause, skip, repeat, view queue, and much more. The expanded format turns the widget into a full-featured micro player, combining usability with personalization.
Prototyping
An interactive prototype brought the widget redesign to life and made key interactions like tapping, swiping and expanding testable in real context. This helped fine-tune usability and ensure the design feels smooth and intuitive on the iPhone.
